As a software consultant it's not uncommon to have multiple "first days" with a new company throughout the course of the year. This can come with all the expected complexity and drama such as meeting a new team, learning how to work with a new boss, and getting a new computer rig set up just the way you want. Of course it can also mean a lot of hurry up and wait for the necessary access, software, permissions, and documentation.
At the start of one project they wouldn't allow me to connect to their systems using my own computer - they had to send me their own with their security settings. It took me a couple days to get my new laptop and a couple more days to get the security key and authentication instruction so I could actually login.
Once in I discovered that none of the developer tools were installed, so I started downloading them and discovered that I didn't have permissions to install software on the laptop, so I had to put in a support request for that.
While I was waiting on this, I tried to answer some questions for one of the other developers and pulled up the MDN Web Docs and Stack Overflow. It turns out, both of these sites were blocked by the web firewall, preventing me from looking up answers to most of the challenging questions.
While I was eventually able to get the necessary software installed, I did end up having to use my own laptop for all research work because I couldn't get them to unblock the most important websites on the internet for developers.
