Martine Dowden Speaking at NDC Oslo
The Andromeda CTO will travel to Norway to give a talk on CSS

Andromeda Founder and CTO Martine Dowden will be traveling to Oslo, Norway to speak at the NDC Oslo Conference on Thursday, September 29th.

Martine’s talk, CSS in Motion: Animations for fun and profit will run from 11:40am - 12:40 pm CEST (5:40 AM - 6:40 AM Eastern), in Room 7 at the Oslo Spektrum in the heart of Oslo When we open a door in the physical world, it does not instantly go from closed to open. There is a transition period between the two states when the door is in motion. We can now also give our users transitions between states in our UIs using CSS animations and transitions. Whether we are opening a menu, adding a hover effect, or creating a loader, animating the transition between states can help keep our users oriented and give our applications a much more natural feel. In this talk attendees will look at examples of when animations would be helpful, the difference between transitions and animation, how to implement keyframes, CSS limitations and JavaScript options to overcome them, and accessibility concerns regarding animations.

An award winning CTO, UX / UI designer & developer, international speaker, and author, Martine focuses on web interfaces that are beautiful, functional, accessible, and usable. She approaches user experience from both art and science, drawing from her degrees in psychology and visual communications. She has worked as a developer, artist, educator, and consultant since 2005. In 2015, she published a children's book, Programming Languages ABC++, and in 2016 the Workbook Edition sold over 20,000 copies. Shen then went on to write Approachable Accessibility: Planning for Success which was released in June 2019 and Architecting CSS: The Programmer’s Guide to Effective Stylesheets in 2020. Currently, she is the CTO at Andromeda Galactic Solutions where she continues work on and share her passion for front end development.
