Indy Startup Hosts Gaming Fundraisers
Andromeda participates in Extra Life to support Riley Hospital for Children
The 10-person remote team at Andromeda Galactic Solutions is raising funds for Riley Hospital for Children through Extra Life by hosting multiple gaming activities in 2020. Extra Life unites thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised over $70 million for sick and injured kids.
In April, the Andromeda team kicked off their fundraising efforts with a virtual board game played and streamed by their employees across the U.S. They plan to host at least one similar event every other month through November 7, the official Extra Life Game Day.
The next event, a virtual play of “Race to the Galaxy,” will be streamed live on Friday, May 29, at 8 p.m. EDT. Viewers are encouraged to make a donation to the Andromeda Extra Life team page.
“Serving the community is a very important part of who we are as an organization,” said Michael Dowden, co-founder. “Many members of our team are gamers, and with the challenges everyone is facing this year, we feel this activity is even more important than ever. Not only are we raising money for the kids, at a time when healthcare is in everyone’s minds, but we’re providing entertainment for those isolated at home. Best of all, our team loves doing it.”
In 2019, Andromeda raised more than $1,800 for the cause. Andromeda is also active in educating the next generation of developers through Eleven Fifty Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the tech talent gap in Indiana.
